SBSM Deputy Director General Li Weisen was elected the President (2009-2012) of the Permanent Committee on Geographic Infrastructure for Asia and the Pacific (PCGIAP) at the 18th United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for Asia and the Pacific and the 15th General Assembly of PCGIAP. China is one of the founders of PCGIAP. SBSM deputies have assumed key positions of the organization and played leading roles in PCGIAP development strategy and targets, program implementation, and in promoting the development of the spatial data infrastructure of the counties in Asia and the Pacific. Li was PCGIAP Secretary General during 2006-2009.
