Participation in UN-GGIM
National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation (NASG) has actively participated in the development of the United Nations initiative of Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM).
Under the presidency of NASG, the Permanent Committee on GIS Infrastructure for Asia and the Pacific (PCGIAP) rebranded itself into the Regional Committee of United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP) in 2012.
Jointly organized by NASG and the Secretariat of UN-GGIM (the UN Statistics Division), the Hangzhou Forum on United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management was held on 24-25 May 2012 in Hangzhou, China, and the Chengdu Forum on UNGGIM with the theme of Urban Hazard Mapping was held on 15-17 October 2013 in Chengdu, China.
NASG, representing the Chinese Government, signed the Technical Cooperation Trust Fund Agreement with the United Nations in 2012. According to the agreement, the Chinese Government will donate four million US dollars to the United Nations to implement the project entitled “Geospatial Information Management Capacity Development in China and Other Developing Countries” during 2013-2017. The project aims to enhance the capacity of China and other developing countries in geospatial information production, management, distribution and application. Since 2013, various activities have been conducted and a large number of participants from developing countries were funded under the framework of the project.
The 3rd High Level Forum on United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management, jointly organized by NASG and the Secretariat of UN-GGIM, will be held at NASG, Beijing, China on 22-24 October 2014.
