Management of Individual Surveying & Mapping Qualifications

Since 1997, NASG had formulated and issued “Measures for Implementation of Verification of Professional Technical Ability of Special Skills of the Surveying & Mapping Industry (Trial)” as well as supporting management methods for job qualification certificate, test, evaluator, evaluation station, quality supervision and technician evaluation, etc., adjusted and created 6 types of work, including geodetic surveyor, engineering surveyor, cadastral surveyor, map drawer, photogrammetry surveyor and house property surveyor. As of the end of December 2012, a total of 163,000 people had participated in the appraisal of special professional skills of the surveying & mapping geographic information sector, of which 14,800 people acquired national professional certificates, including 32,000 people who have acquired occupational qualification for senior technician and 1,775 people who have acquired occupational qualification for technician.

In 2007, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China and NASG jointly issued “Interim Provisions on the System for Registration of Surveyor”, “Implementing Measures for Qualification Test for Registration of Surveyor” and “Assessment and Verification Measures for Qualification of Registered Surveyor”, symbolizing that China has established the system for registration of surveyor. The system of registration of surveyor emphasizes practicing qualifications and determines whether surveying & mapping professionals can hold key positions in surveying & mapping activities with an aim of enhancing project design, project technical management and surveying & mapping results quality management of professionals and making clear legal obligation and legal liability for losses arising from work-related faults. The system test targets mainly on-job professionals of surveying & mapping units or personnel who have been engaged in technical work related to surveying and mapping. At present, there are 6,231 registered surveyors in China.
